We were invited on a local history tour of the some of the surrounding area and a couple of the local spots that are frequented by the missionaries here as tourists. Well, not like we have a lot planned for Mondays so, why not? We started out at the Blacksmith Shop and the wagon just outside of it taking pictures for the trip. The day promised to be a bit showery most of the day but nothing we couldn't handle.

Ready to ride the wagon going West...well, maybe not. gotta wait till November. |
The next stop was Bonaparte or previously know as Meek's Mill. Here is where Brigham Young once crossed the Des Moines River. Many thousands of pioneers crossed in several places along these rivers throughout this area. This is just one of many. |
Couldn't miss getting a pict of Arlene in front of a local post office, now could we? I'm thinking she's probably over this but it's good for the picture library. |
Next stop was a local pottery barn where we had a tour of the facilities and got a history of the place. I saw these Iris in one section and it reminded us of our lovely ones at home. |
Some of the stuff they've done before but, oddly enough, none of these were for sale in the shop store. Too bad because this was the best looking stuff they had. They don't spin the pottery they pour them into molds and they get sucked to the sides. Kind of interesting. |
This was the gal giving the tour along with Elder Gammel, one of our missionaries. |
This is the gift shop in the old pottery barn. It was built on the old site of the original pottery kiln. They had an upstairs that was vacant but had a lot of pictures and nothing else. Building was built in the mid-1800s. |
We went to a local restaurant for lunch and I saw this hanging on the wall at the cash register. Wondering if you know what this is? It'll tell how old you are if you know what it is, won't it?
Next we went to Bettinsport. It's a few miles down the road.

Here's the Sisters posing at the kiosk in front of the Mormon Trail sign in the town. Since it was Monday, most everything was closed, as usual. Sister's Seger, Simons, Gammel, Jones, and Baker. |
The Mason House. |
Flood much? This B&B looks out on the river and is only about 100 yards from the front door. |
Here is the bridge across the Des Moines River in front of the Mason B&B. It's been around for a while. |
...and you want me to go across this thing? |
...don't think it needs any maintenance or repairs? |
...guess not...I'm thinking this would be ci=ondemned in Kalifornia but, well, what the heck... |
On to another crossing a bit further up the road... |
A serene look at the Des Moines River as it starts to rain and we depart for Richardson Crossing and the final resting place of a couple pioneers. |
Most of the group at Richardson Point. |
There are two pioneers buried within the fencing. The pioneers stopped here for a few weeks due to inclement weather and suffered greatly. It's next to a pig farm and that makes it, well, a bit of challenge...ugh. It is well maintained by the owners and allows all who want to visit open to trespassers any time they want to pass on their property. It was dedicated in 2014. |
We then went to Linden and I have shown lots of pictures there before so no need to show any more. After that we headed home and a much needed night of rest. Tomorrow, the 18th, we head off to Adam-Ondi-Ahman for a tour and a few other sites. Looking forward to the tour by Bro Dunn, his last one in the area before he moves to St. George.
