090416_the Grape Festival Parade

Labor Day in Nauvoo.  They actually had the parade on the 4th and not on Monday in conjunction with the annual Grape Festival held every year in Nauvoo.  But, it has a similar feel to it.  Since we live less than a block from the parade route, I walked up to the parade and snapped a few picts so thought I would include some of them here.  We were waiting to go to dinner over at the Warren's anyway and I had a little time left over and had finished packing some of my stuff for our trip.  Why not?

Just for Nathan, this was a local Fuzz-Mobile that lead the parade.  They had a couple of them clearing people from the parade route.  Notice the kid in the chair with his ears covered.  Wonder why?
The usual Boy Scouts marching the US flag down the street but, unlike the people in California and certain way over-paid NFL players, most of these people actually stood up and put their hands over their hearts as the flags passed.  Kind of nice for a change.
The obligatory row of fire/EMT vehicles were there, also.
Now, this is an interesting vehicle!  Why?  Because, there is only one building in Nauvoo that could possibly ever use this thing and that is the temple.  Nothing is taller than about 2 1/2 stories but this will go the full 7 stories, if need be.  Rumor has it the church bought it for the local fire department when the temple was built but no one will verify that, for a lot of different reasons.  Nice truck, though...
Another nice truck, huh?
The parade continues...
Well, ya know, you don't see one of these in the Pleasant Valley July 4th parade...ever....
...and another nicely restored truck...
...more parade coming by...
One more for Nathan...here is their search and rescue boat.  Try to remember Nauvoo is located next to the Mississippi River and it's pretty shallow so this would be pretty useful there, not like the American River.  It's also relatively slow moving.  At any rate, this is the parade.  More to come....
